We are delighted to announce that we are getting the Plaque for Excellence from the Discover Primary Science and Maths Award this year! We should have it in a few weeks so we will post pictures of it when it finally arrives. Well done to all the staff and students for all their hard work this year.
What a week we have all had celebrating Active Week 2017! It has been so much fun. There were different activities organised for each day, including a skipathon, a rugby pass and a dance workshop. We hope our School Sports Day will take place on June 7th but that is dependent on the weather. Fingers crossed for sunshine and blue skies! Take a look at the video below to see the children enjoying their dance workshop.
Today we had the final of the Junior Public Speaking Event 2017. It was a wonderful experience! Eighteen children from 1st, 2nd and 3rd class took part. Andrew, Jacob and Ellen represented our class. Each child presented their speeches to the large audience. The panel of three judges were highly impressed with each and every participant. Every finalist received a certificate of achievement. However, only three children could walk away with medals on the day. A child from 1st Class came in third place, Poppie from 3rd Class came in second place and Ellen from 2nd Class A walked away with the first place medal. Congratulations to all three children from 2nd Class A. We are all so proud of you.
2nd Class A have started to learn about subtraction with renaming. This is one of the trickiest concepts that 2nd class children learn. We heave learned a rhyme to help us to remember what to do. It would be great if families could practise this rhyme at home with the children:
"More on top
No need to stop.
More on the floor
Go next door
And borrow ten more."
I will send home some subtraction sums with renaming a little later this week for the children to try at home themselves.
In the meantime, the document below might help you understand how the children are learning to do subtraction with renaming.
As part of Engineering Week 2017 the children in 2nd Class A were invited to design and construct something using their own choice of material and bring it into school today for presentation. It was a wonderful event! The children came up with some wonderful ideas. Lego appeared to be the most popular material however some children constructed their projects using both card and wood. Thank you so much to all the parents and families who helped out at home. Your support is sincerely appreciated :)
